The Lawyer’s Break

Privacy Notice

1. Our minimal-data approach

The Lawyer’s Break is an IRIDA project for legal professionals, students and anyone interested in law.

You can play the Greek pilot without providing your name or email address. Joining the launch list and making other submissions are separate and optional.

For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@thelawyersbreak.com.

2. What we process

We do not use this information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

3. Legal Eagle IDs and rankings

On your first visit, we assign your browser a pseudonymous Legal Eagle number. A browser token, stored through local storage and a secure first-party cookie, allows us to recognise the same browser, preserve recent progress and prevent repeated visits from being counted incorrectly. The cookie may be renewed when you return.

We store a one-way hash of the token rather than the token itself. Your Legal Eagle ID is not connected to a name or email address, but it may still be personal data.

Daily and weekly rankings may publicly display Legal Eagle numbers, ranks, mistakes, completion totals and times. They do not display names or contact details. Someone who already knows your number may nevertheless recognise your results.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

4. Challenges and horror stories

If you challenge an answer, we receive your Legal Eagle number, the exercise and version, your selected reason, any optional comment and the submission time.

Horror-story submissions are not linked to your Legal Eagle ID. Please do not include names, contact details, client information or anything else that could identify you or another person.

If we select a story, we edit and anonymise it before publication. An anonymised version that can no longer be connected to a person is not personal data and may remain published.

5. Launch list

Joining the launch list is optional and does not create a game account or subscribe you to a general newsletter.

We collect the information you provide in the form, such as your first name, email address, participant type, professional role, experience and preferred area of law. We also record the registration time, your sequential waitlist number and the version of the consent presented to you.

We use this information only to confirm your place and send the requested launch invitation. You may withdraw your consent or request deletion at any time.

6. Sharing and storage

We do not sell personal data. Information is available only to authorised persons working on IRIDA and service providers used to host, maintain, secure and operate the website and registration system.

We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected. We then delete or anonymise it unless it must be retained to comply with the law, address a security issue or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Details of our confirmed providers, their processing locations and any applicable international-transfer safeguards are made available before the public launch.

7. Your rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

Because the game does not require an account, you may need to provide your Legal Eagle number, submission reference or launch-list email address so that we can locate the relevant information. We do not collect additional information solely to identify players.

Contact privacy@thelawyersbreak.com to exercise your rights.

You may also complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live or work. In Sweden, this is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

8. Changes

We update this notice if the service introduces accounts, payments or other functions, or if our processing otherwise changes materially.
